I don't like all reality tv shows but I do love shows like America's got talent and Last Comic Standing. But I don't like American Idol because it just takes too long.
Anyway I've been watching this season's America's got Talent and I noticed that Seattle had some real freak shows. did anyone else see this? I mean if you are going to go on a talent show maybe you shouldn't try drilling your face. Seattle had the most weird people thinking they were talented when in fact they were completely creepy. Here is a tip for anyone thinking of trying out on one of these types of shows. If you find yourself saying "this is a talent that no one has ever seen before" then I have news for you, you are about to be booed off stage. Seriously I have yet to see anyone say "my talent is unlike anything anyone has ever seen" and then win the show. Most of the time they get three Xs faster than you can say don't hassle the hoff.
Also how about that country singing dude at the Chicago auditions. He was awesome. He is like America's Susan Boyle. No I take that back, Susan Boyle is still in a class all by herself.
I would like to talk about Susan Boyle. I know she had like a mental break down and what not, but in my mind she is still amazing. Susan Boyle took the stage at Britain's got Talent while being laughed at. She then performed a song so amazing that it gave people hope. That is what makes her awesome. On America's got talent, while there has been talent, and yeah I've been amazed a few times (like with the guy who had the flying microphone stand) no one has created the feeling that I felt the first time I heard Susan Boyle sing on Britain's got Talent. I think it was partly the song she chose, but mostly I think it was the way she just rocked the house. What most people in America never saw was the entire clip that was on Britain's got talent. Most of us were happy with a short youtube clip that was mostly her singing... but in the full clip she is interviewed backstage before her performance. It was edited in a way that made her look kind of goofy, which I think was the show's creators attempt to make her performance look even better. But there is this moment before she goes on stage when she looks into the camera and says "I've always wanted to perform in front of a large audience, I'm going to make that audience rock." and she says it with such conviction and self-belief that I think it makes the whole thing more beautiful. What Susan Boyle did on that stage in round one of Britain's got Talent was beautiful, and maybe the press got to her later in the competition, but in that one moment, when she gave Britain and the world hope just by singing a song, she was great. And greatness, no matter how short lived, is still greatness. Some people's dreams come true for a second and some come true for a life time. I don't think it is any less awesome when you only live that dream for a second. Some people never live their dreams, and so a second is immensely better than to never live the life you imagined. I say kudos to Susan Boyle and hope she has a speedy recovery from her problems. I hope she can return to her cat, and her life, and I hope most of all, that she can realize that she gave hope to some random 24 year old guy on the other side of the world. I hope she has a wonderful life, and I hope she never stops singing.
Keep on rocking in the free world and don't forget to be awesome
Scott
