Not about the 4th

This post will have nothing to do with the fact that today is a national holiday. I mean I'm sure you are 1. aware of todays date or 2 not living in america... so you don't care. Anyway I don't feel like writing anything about that.

Let's talk about music. When I'm a work sometimes there is a song that will come on and it makes me smile. I feel like I am getting away with something when they play some of my favorite songs, or artists. For example I don't really like the song Human Touch by Bruce Springsteen however I love Bruce Springsteen so it is like a friend just showed up to wave at me. It helps me get through the day. that is why I love music, is has some amazing quality to refresh your soul and it is private feeling that can't be taken away by anyone.

Bruce Springsteen once said, "Good music is basically there to give you something to face the world with."

Music is awesome. Isn't it cool how you can be moved by music in a way that doesn't happen with other art forms. Like a painting can be great, or poetry, or a play, a book, a movie, but a song, a song can go anywhere with you. You can sing it, hum it, whistle it, or just let it play over and over in your head. Often times when I'm running I hear Rocky music in my head. it is nice.

That is why I like music, it can't be broken and it can't be taken away from you. Paintings and book can be burned, but a song can live on in your heart and mind and never die. Also there are amazing and rare times in your life when a song becomes the soundtrack for whatever is happening, and for the rest of you life, that song plays the incident over and over again. For some people it is the last dance of prom, or the first dance of a married couple, and for others it can be a traumatic event. Either way music is probably the greatest of all of mankind's creations. I hope some day I can write just one awesome song. That would be most excellent.

Keep on rocking in the free world (which if you haven't guessed by now is not only my favorite catch phrase but also the refrain to a song by Neil Young)

I love what you said about the unvanquishability? invincibility? of music. It's kind of like the most pure form of artisticness/emotion. Like with art, drawings and stuff, you have got to get the feeling you want to portray out from your head and onto the page. But then your art isn't going to be viewed the same way by other people as it is by you, because it's inherently abstract and open for interpretation.

But songs are universal. And the emotion of them, and the feeling behind them, is obvious and natural and doesn't need to be analyzed or thought about or picked apart to be better appreciated. It just is what it is, and you know what it is just because it's like this primal, emotional, thing.

YAY MUSIC!
